Welcome!
Welcome to the web site describing the Rutgers University Biomedical
Engineering Industrial Internship Program.
Enabled initially by the generous support of the Whitaker Foundation,
the Rutgers Department of Biomedical Engineering provides a dynamic
and diverse industrial internship program for its undergraduate and
graduate students. Each summer, talented BME students are hosted by
industry for 8-12 weeks working on commercially relevant projects.
There they gain significant insight into the workings and culture
of the modern biomedical industrial environment to augment the traditional
education they receive at Rutgers.
BEIIP manages the processes of application, resume review, and interview
by the Industrial Internship Program Staff to assess applicable skills
and experience. Scientists and other corporate personnel are contacted
to ensure appropriate match of candidate student interns to available
internship positions. Company interviews are arranged by early spring.
Students begin their internships during the month of June, and complete
the experience by the end of August. A small group of interns continue
to work for the companies after their internships, through part-time
employment arrangements made directly by the company, or through the
Rutgers School of Engineering Co-op Program. The Co-op program supports
students who wish more extensive industrial experience, and requires
students to work at the Co-op site for at least 8 months on a full
time basis (a summer and a semester).
