Master's Degrees

At Rutgers Biomedical Engineering, we have over 70 graduate faculty dedicated to providing students with a solid training in six areas of biomedical engineering and technology - molecular systems bioengineering, nanosystems and microsystems engineering, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, physiological systems and bioinstrumentation, biomechanical engineering and neuroengineering. We accomplish this through different degree programs, each suited to students' different career interests:

Master of Science (MS)

The MS degree in Biomedical Engineering is a thesis-based degree for students who wish to equip themselves with a solid foundation of life science and engineering fundmentals and research under a faculty supervisor that could lead to a PhD degree and/or an academic position.

Master of Engineering (ME)

The ME degree focuses on preparing students in the fundamentals of biomedical engineering without a thesis - it is a terminal degree that is not intended to lead to a PhD program. It includes a solid foundation of life science and engineering fundmentals to prepare students for professional advancement in industry.

Master of Business and Science (MBS)

The Master of Business and Science (MBS) in Biomedical Engineering degree is part of Rutgers' Professional Science Master's programs that brings together master's level study in science, engineering, and math with courses in business and policy. It is a combination of a MS in Biomedical Engineering and MBA degree. The business and policy component of the degree consists of core courses in finance and accounting, marketing, communication and leadership, management of science and technology electives, ethics and a capstone course covering entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship.
