Adam Gormley has been awarded a Presidential Fellowship for Teaching Excellence for the academic year 2022-2023 as one of the university's most distinguished young faculty members. This award is bestowed in recognition of his outstanding teaching accomplishments during his years at Rutgers, as documented in the evaluation that has led to his recent promotion to Associate Professor.
The fellowship includes a grant of $1,000 from the Board of Trustees. Adam will receive his award along with fellow honorees a reception to be held at President Holloway's House.

Professors Francois Berthiaume, Rene Schloss, Noshir Langrana, Martin Yarmush, Janet Alder, and Smita Varia received a grant from the New Jersey Commission on Brain Injury Research (NJCBIR). The project aims to dampen the inflammation in the brain after traumatic brain injury, with a focus on the role of high-mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1). The award is for $540,000 over 3 years.

Maribel Vazquez, a professor in the School of Engineering Department of Biomedical Engineering was presented with the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) 2023 Professional Impact Award for Education at its annual March meeting.
The AIMBE award citation honoring AIMBE Fellow Vazquez reads: “For her sustained and innovative inclusion of health disparities and its public health impacts into Biomedical Engineering undergraduate curricula, training and outreach.”

The School of Engineering Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) has received an unrestricted gift from the Gerald B. Shreiber (GBS) Foundation, a private foundation located in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
Through his foundation, Shreiber, board chairman of J&J Snack Foods and uncle of BME professor and department chair David Shreiber, had previously supported the department with a gift earmarked for graduate student support.

Professors Mark Pierce and Prabhas Moghe were awarded a 1-year, $154,769 grant to advance a novel imaging contrast agent developed at Rutgers toward commercial adoption. The award, from the NIH’s C3i program, will allow the team to develop methods to synthesize infrared light-emitting nanocomposites at commercial scales. The nanocomposites can be used to highlight specific tissues within the body and are expected to find applications in preclinical imaging for drug discovery and in image-guided surgical resection of tumors.
