A research team from the Rutgers School of Engineering, which includes Biomedical Engineering faculty member Dr. Mark Pierce and his PhD student J. P. Dumas and Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty member Dr. Waheed Bajwa and his PhD student Asad Lodhi, received the 2017 Gallo Award for Scientific Excellence from the Cancer Institute of New Jersey during its annual retreat. This award recognizes the team’s recent research efforts on combining ideas from signal processing and biomedical optics to design a computational endomicroscope that can be used for high-resolution in vivo imaging and can potentially lead to early detection of cancerous tissues. This research is currently being funded by the National Science Foundation.
