BME Undergraduates Win 1st place in 2010-2011 REI Energy Innovation Contest

BME Undergraduates Ian Johnston and Ajay Menon, along with MSE undergraduate Brian Doyle, received 1st Place in the Rutgers Energy Institute's "Energy Innovation Contest" at this year's Rutgers Energy Symposium. The annual energy symposium provides an environment for faculty, students, government officials and community members to not only learn but collaborate about the new methods, processes, and innovations being pursued by energy thinkers here at Rutgers, as well as across the country. The 2010-2011 Energy Innovation Contest challenged Rutgers students to develop a practical and cost effective plan to reduce student energy consumption and promote eco-friendly practices throughout the Rutgers, New Brunswck Campus. The group of Ian Johnston, Ajay Menon, and Brian Doyle won 1st place with their proposal titled "Keycard Based Energy Saving Pilot Program" which suggests using Rutgers ID's as keycards to activate electricity to dormitories helping to limit the amount of energy wasted by students leaving electronics running while the room is vacant.
