Faculty Receive Department of Defense DURIP Award for 2016

Assistant Professors Waheed Bajwa (ECE) and Mark Pierce (BME) were awarded a Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP) grant for $275k from the Department of Defense. Their project entitled “MANTIS: A Multimodal Imaging Suite to Enhance Army's ISTAR Capabilities and Improve Soldiers’ Health” will result in a suite of multimodal imaging devices that can image scenes with optical wavelengths from the ultraviolet to the long-wave infrared.  The project will also provide high-resolution, high-speed, high-sensitivity, and distance/ranging capabilities. This imaging suite is termed MANTIS as an acknowledgement of the amazing multispectral vision capabilities of mantis shrimp.
