Professors Martin Yarmush, Anil Shrirao, and Rene Schloss have been awarded a 3-year $460,383 grant from Terumo Corporation. The award entitled, “A Robotic Device for Assisting Clinicians in the Completion of the Transradial Catheterization Procedure”, applies the know-how developed for the Yarmush lab’s automated robotic venipuncture device towards radial artery catheterization. The use of the radial artery for cardiac angiography is increasing because the traditional femoral artery catheterization can cause many problems, including bleeding at the puncture site and nerve damage.
